…APC govs meet Buhari


  • Want party’s position, decision respected

The governors on the platform of the rul­ing All Progressives Congress (APC) have expressed worries that the continuous crisis in the National Assembly might derail the party and urged President Muham­madu Buhari to intervene.
They also commended the President for his efforts to restore the economy, which is presently in a shambles.

The meeting between President Buhari and gover­nors, which began at 11 p.m Tuesday ended in the wee hours of yesterday morn­ing, was held behind closed doors.
They described the meet­ing with Buhari as reassur­ing, adding that it was an in­dication that there was light at the end of the tunnel.
Fielding questions from State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha said: “We are the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors, we met with Mr. President, we are worried by what is happen­ing at the National Assem­bly.
“We felt we should rub minds with Mr. President and also to commend him on the steps he has taken so far to address the issue of the economy of the nation which is literarily in a shambles.
“But with all these achievements we are mak­ing, we are worried by the pockets of disagreements going on at the National Assembly and we have re­solved that we come from a party and our party’s views should be respected.
“So, we feel that there is room for us to invite our sen­ators and look more into the matter and see how we can all make peace.”
Also speaking, his Edo State counterpart, Adams Oshiomhole said, “basically what we are saying is that the senators should adopt the position of the party.
“We were all elected on the platform of the party, we are not just a collection of individuals.
“We are a political party and when the party has spo­ken we must listen otherwise if it was a game of individu­als like golf then individuals could go their way.”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, generated about N8.1trillion between 2012 and May 2015, but paid only N4.3trillion to the federation account, Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, said Monday, citing new details from the federal economic council meeting. The balance of the oil money — about N3.8trillion — was withheld and spent by the NNPC unilaterally without approval or National Assembly appropriation, the governor told journalists. Also, the governor confirmed at the meeting that from November 2014, about $2.1billion was withdrawn from the excess crude account without the approval of the National Economic Council, NEC.
