Here are the five things you need to know this Thursday: confusion
reigns in Greece as talks between the country and its creditors have
been stopped until after a weekend referendum; former sergeant-at-arms
Kevin Vickers made a memorable return to Parliament Hill; Loblaws has
issued a recall for No Name brand chicken burgers over salmonella fears;
a robot killed a contractor at a Volkswagen production plant in
Germany; and some stunning views from the Great Barrier Reef have been
released to highlight the plight of turtles.
Plus, today’s "Life Hack Thursday" tips will help you reduce the strain
on your eyes if you spend long hours staring at screens.
1. Back on the Hill: Former sergeant-at-arms Kevin
Vickers soared in the cockpit of a Canadian Forces Snowbird plane as
part of the aerobatic team's traditional Canada Day flyby of Parliament
Hill. The ambassador to Ireland was honoured for his leadership and dedication to Canada's security.
2. Chaos expected: Talks between Greece and its creditors have been suspended,
leaving many banks in the country still closed. A referendum is due to
be held this weekend but citizens say they are worried the situation
could become worse.
3. Chicken burger recall: Loblaws is recalling its No Name brand chicken burgers sold in Atlantic Canada, Ontario and Quebec because of a possible salmonella contamination.
4. Tragic human error? A robot killed a 22-year-old contractor at a Volkswagen production plant in Germany on Wednesday.
A spokesman for VW said that he was part of a team that was setting up
the stationary robot when it suddenly grabbed him. Police are unsure
whether to bring charges -- and if so, whom they would charge.
5. View from the deep: The World Wildlife Foundation of Australia has released breathtaking footage
of a turtle exploring the depths of the Great Barrier Reef. The footage
was filmed as part of a study to investigate how pollution was
affecting turtles.
